My name was always going to be Yasmin.
My mother was pregnant when she first noticed the jasmine tree arching over our doorstep and she became so obsessed with its scent. She decided before I was born that I would be named after it. Yasmin. The Farsi word for jasmine.
I think she knew something I would spend years discovering for myself.
I have been in love with scent my whole life. At three years old, I would wander to the bathroom at restaurants just to smell the soap. My childhood memories consist of buying perfume, baby fragrances, department store testers, anything I could get close to. I didn't know why. I just knew that the right smell could make me feel powerful, visible, completely like myself.
Perfume was always the last step in my routine. The final thing that made me feel ready.
I created No. 33 for the moments that become part of you. The happiest nights. The milestones. The memories you return to years later and feel, before you can even picture them clearly.
I want it to become part of your memories the same way it already is mine.
